With the help of 140 volunteers, the New Mexico State University Student Veterans Housing project, Nov. 9, resulted in 24 renovated homes in the Tom Fort Village.

"The event for veterans' housing was more successful than I could have ever imagined," said Evan Conner, Associated Students of NMSU president. "The support and help we received in planning and executing, the project was beyond what we anticipated."

ASNMSU spearheaded the project that included painting the exterior and providing yard maintenance. NMSU is one of a few universities in the country to offer on-campus housing for student veterans and their families.

"ASNMSU's next step is to advocate for updated appliances through a capital outlay request at the upcoming legislative session," he said. "I believe this will go a long way in ensuring that our veterans' housing on campus is in optimal condition for student veterans."

Conner credits the Chancellor's Office, Housing and Residential Life and Facilities and Services with helping the project succeed.
