NMSU’s annual ‘Noche de Luminarias’ lights up the sky Dec. 1
The 35th annual “Noche de Luminarias” event at New Mexico State University will offer the community a chance to witness more than 7,250 luminarias illuminate the NMSU campus from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec.1, at Corbett Center Student Union.
“The event is a great opportunity for friends and family to come together and kickoff the holiday season. Families can enjoy a trolley ride, cookie decorating, take pictures with Striking the Wonder Dog, Pistol Pete and Santa. Additional entertainment and refreshments will also be available inside Corbett Center and Barnes & Noble. Whether you are continuing a family tradition or starting a new one, come out and join us for this special evening,” said Bruce Vandevender, director of Campus Activities.
The candle-lit paper bags will begin at the Educational Services Building, follow along the International Mall, surround Corbett Center Student Union, extend down to Barnes and Noble, and line McFie Circle.
This show of lights is one of the largest luminaria displays in New Mexico, along with this attraction other activities and entertainment also will be available to the public free of charge.
This event is sponsored by Campus Activities, Corbett Center Student Union, NMSU Dining Service, the Associated Students of NMSU along with Auxiliary Administration and the Barnes & Noble Bookstore.
The Las Cruces High School band and the LCHS band Parents Association provide the materials, set-up and the lighting of the luminarias as a part of their community fundraising program.
