BARNES AND NOBLE OPEN MIC NIGHTS


Barnes & Noble at NMSU will continue the popular Open Mic performances from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays. To sign up to perform, contact bncafe@nmsu.edu.

Open Mic is free of charge and open to the public. Free parking is available in designated spaces. Barnes & Noble at NMSU is located at 1400 E. University Ave. For more information, call 575-646-5822.

MESILLA VALLEY CONCERT BAND TO PERFORM AT ATKINSON RECITAL HALL

The Mesilla Valley Concert Band will present a holiday-themed concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Atkinson Recital Hall on the NMSU campus.

The ensemble will perform "A Rhapsody on Christmas Carols" by Claude Smith; "Nocturne" by Scriabin; a Glenn Miller tribute medley by Warren Barker; "Liberty Bell March" by John Philip Sousa; and "El Camino Real" by Alfred Reed. This event is free and open to the public.

STYX CONCERT, TICKET DRAWING AND OPENING BAND SEARCH

Classic rock legends, Styx, will perform live at NMSU's Pan American Center at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the opening act scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m.

Ticket prices range from $25-$35, plus applicable fees, and are available at the Pan American Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, charged by phone at 800-745-3000 and online at ticketmaster.com/venue/98676/.

"An Evening with Styx" is presented through NMSU Special Events and the American Collegiate Talent Showcase. The Las Cruces Convention & Visitors Bureau and NMSU are looking for a local band to open for the Jan. 15 Pan American Center performance of "An Evening with Styx." To enter, bands must submit a 3-5-minute demo of their ensemble by Friday, Jan. 3. Entries will be reviewed and finalists will compete for the grand prize during a special performance and voting on Friday, Jan. 10, at Hurricane Alley in Las Cruces.
