The New Mexico State University OASIS Club - the Organization of Aggie Students Inspiring Sustainability - has announced the schedule for this year's Fall Sustainability Film Series.

All films are free and open to the public. Each showing is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in the NMSU Health and Social Services Auditorium, with a guided discussion to follow. Free popcorn will be available.

"The purpose of the film series, as I see it, is to provide a forum for free viewing and discussion of current sustainability-related topics," said Mark Uchanski, NMSU OASIS adviser.

The six-film series begins on Wednesday, Oct. 30, with "Mysteries Underground and the World's Largest Cave," a film about caves, including New Mexico's Lechuguilla, part of Carlsbad Caverns National Park.

"The New Green Giants" will be shown Friday, Nov. 8. This film looks at a number of new and old organic corporations and shows how they are managing, and examines questions of health and sustainability in organic food production.

The film scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13, is "Ladies of the Land," which profiles four women who once never thought they would be in charge of a farm, but now raise cattle, sell goat cheese and harvest organic vegetables.

"Gasland" is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 15. When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country journey examining the impacts of natural gas drilling in several states.

"Fuel" will be shown Wednesday, Nov. 20, featuring Josh Tickell, on the road discovering the pros and cons of biofuels.

"Collapse" will conclude the film series Friday, Nov. 22. This film examines the rise of our civilization during the 20th and 21st centuries and how the population explosion and political discord create the conditions for the collapse of civilization.
