ATKINSON HALL TO HOST MUSICAL PERFORMANCES

At 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, the Mesilla Valley Concert Band will perform under the direction of William Clark and associate conductor John Schutz at NMSU's Atkinson Recital Hall.

The program will include: "Overture to the Barber of Seville," by Gioacchino Rossini; "English Dances," by Malcomb Arnold; "O Magnum Mysterium," by Morten Lauridsen; "Who's Who in Navy Blue," by John Philip Sousa; and will feature the Mesilla Valley Jazz Orchestra, led by Karl Tonander.

The Mesilla Valley Concert Band is a 100-member ensemble, consisting of adults from southern New Mexico and west Texas. This event is free and open to the public.

At 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, Juan Villalobos will perform his senior saxophone recital at Atkinson Recital Hall. This event is also free and open to the public.

NMSU GOLF COURSE TO HOST 'FAMILY GET GOLF READY'

The NMSU Golf Course will host a special Family Get Golf Ready session, supporting March of Dimes High Heels for High Hopes and sponsored by Full Bloom Pediatrics, starting Sunday, Oct. 20.

Get Golf Ready is an opportunity to learn the game of golf in a comfortable, family environment. This special session costs $100 per family and is limited to the first 15 families who sign up at http://bit.ly/19acIiM . This session will run for five consecutive Sundays from 3 to 4 p.m. beginning Oct. 20.

NMSU DANCE PROGRAM PRESENTS 'CRYSTAL JUBILEE'

NMSU's Dance Program will present the 15th anniversary of NMSU's bachelor of arts in dance at the fall faculty concert, Crystal Jubilee, at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 and 19, and at 3 p.m. Oct. 20, at the Center for the Arts. The NMSU Contemporary Dance, Sol Y Arena Flamenco, and DanceSport Ballroom companies will perform at the event.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, there will be a reception honoring both dance students and alumni, following the performance with desserts and drinks.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, there will be a luncheon in Rentfrow Gym in honor of and featuring the dance program alumni. This event is open to the public and tickets for the luncheon are $12. Luncheon reservations must be made by Monday, Oct. 14.

NMSU CELEBRATES 'TOUGH ENOUGH TO WEAR PINK' WEEK

NMSU's Tough Enough to Wear Pink week will take place Oct. 13-19, and will encompass a large collection of events – including a fashion show, multiple dinners, auctions and art gallery openings – leading up to the Tough Enough to Wear Pink football game at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19.

CENTER FOR LATIN AMERICAN AND BORDER STUDIES TO HOST TALK

New Mexico State University's Center for Latin American and Border Studies will host a presentation titled "A new Approach to Gang Violence in the Americas: El Salvador, a Case Study" at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Nason House, 1070 University Ave.

The discussion will explore University of New Mexico's Jose Flores Benitez's research regarding the development of gangs in El Salvador – one of the countries with the highest number of gang members and one of the most violent countries in the region – and the country's new policy of sponsoring a truce between gangs and giving concessions to gang members.

NMSU ATHLETICS PRESENTS FOOTBALL, SOCCER, VOLLEYBALL

NMSU Football will take on Rice University during the Tough Enough to Wear Pink game at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

NMSU Volleyball will compete against Grand Canyon University at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Pan American Center.

NMSU Soccer will face Seattle University at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the New Mexico State University Soccer Complex.

NMSU ART GALLERY TO OPEN NEW EXHIBITS

The University Art Gallery at NMSU will display three new exhibitions from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. These shows will run through Dec. 21.

The exhibitions include "Linda Vallejo's Make 'Em All Mexican," "Post-Racial U.S.? An International Juried Exhibition," and "Conserving Tradition: Caring for the NMSU Retablo Collection." This event is free and open to the public.
