El Paso Electric supports several NMSU programs
El Paso Electric has announced that it will provide $44,500 to various programs at New Mexico State University this year.
"El Paso Electric is always impressed with the programs that New Mexico State University offers to their students and this community," said Rico Gonzales, director of New Mexico External Affairs. "We are proud to be able to support such a wide variety of initiatives."
The gift includes $15,000 for the Domenici Public Policy Conference, $2,000 for an annual contribution to the Business Advisory Council and $3,000 for an annual sponsorship for the Center for Public Utilities.
The gift also includes support for programs in the colleges of Health and Social Services, Arts and Sciences and Engineering. There will be $5,000 for a community outreach fund in health; $2,500 to support the NMSU Tournament of Bands; $2,000 for the Volt Slide Rule Golf Classic, which generates funds for engineering schlorships; and $2,500 for the New Mexico Boosting Engineering, Science & Technology program, a robotics design challenge for middle and high school students.
Finally, El Paso Electric will sponsor the International Symposism for Personal and Commercial Space Flight at $7,500, and $5,000 for athletics.
"El Paso Electric is one of our most important partners, with a long history of supporting numerous NMSU programs," said NMSU President Garrey Carruthers. "These funds will help to strengthen important initiatives throughout campus."
Since 1985, El Paso Electric has awarded more than $1.5 million to NMSU, including $250,000 earlier this year to establish the Kenneth R. Heitz/El Paso Electric Endowed Scholarship in the name of El Paso Electric Board Chairman Kenneth R. Heitz who passed away in July 2012. The endowment will be used to provide scholarships for NMSU engineering students who foster technology innovation and sustainability within the electric industry.
