Educators' Job Fair will provide employment opportunities
To provide graduating education students and experienced professionals with an opportunity to interview with school districts throughout the region, New Mexico State University's Career Services will hold the 2013 Educators' Job Fair from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, April 22 and 23, in the Corbett Center Student Union ballrooms.
The job fair has been one of the most effective recruiting forums in the Southwest, and is also unique in that it is set up for participants to have structured interviews with prospective school district employers.
Diverse school districts from eight states are expected to attend the fair. Anyone who qualifies for teacher credentials and is seeking a K-12 teaching position or a support position for the 2013 - 2014 school year is encouraged to participate.
This free event is a public service and is not only intended for NMSU education students but is also open to any interested teachers and education professionals.
"During last year's event, about 300 participants registered and participated in the job fair," said Elizabeth Ortega, coordinator of the Educators' Job Fair at NMSU Career Services. "Given the challenges of the current job market for educators, it is hoped that interested candidates take advantage of the face-to-face contact with school district personnel."
On-site registration will be available at the job fair; however, participants are encouraged to electronically pre-register beforehand. By doing so, candidates can insure scheduled interviews with selected employers before the fair. Information on electronic online registration is available by calling 575-646-2849 or by email at proemp@nmsu.edu.
Participants should also research and prepare as much as possible before the job fair. They should learn as much as they can about the school districts they are interested in, as well as look up factors such as the cost of living in that area.
On the Sunday before the Educators' Job Fair, April 21, an open outreach forum will be held to help anybody prepare for the fair. The session will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Dona Ana Room of Corbett Center.
