What will you do with your degree in Communication Studies? New Mexico State University students will have the opportunity to explore future opportunities during Communication Studies Career Week. The weeklong activities begin today through March 15, in the Speech building. This is the department's first career event and food and beverages will be provided.

"Parents ask our students that question all the time, so we are doing this to answer that question," said Anne Hubbell, communication studies department head and associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences. "It is more than just fun classes, our students have much to contribute and can find outstanding careers."

The informative week will feature workshops in resume writing and internships, as well as mock interviews and a talk with alumni. Students can also find information regarding graduate programs.

The event kicks off with a Career Services Workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, in Room 302.

On Tuesday, March 12, an internship and resume workshop will be held from 10-11 a.m. in Room 302.

Next, an alumni presentation, "How to Get a Job with a Communication Studies Degree: A Talk With Alumni" is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, in Room 302.

Graduate program information will be presented with "Furthering your Education in Communication: Communication Studies Master's Program," from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, in Room 302.

Closing the week, mock interviews will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon in Room 304.

The career week is made possible by the Communication Studies Graduate Student Organization and the Department of Communication Studies, with help from the Undergraduate Communication Association.

"As a graduating senior in pursuit of a communication studies degree, I am constantly looking for insight on how I can prepare myself for a future in the professional world," said Katelyn Maloy. "I am hoping that the Communication Studies Career Week will not only offer me guidance on different potential career paths, but will give me practical information that will allow me to succeed in various fields of work."
