The New Mexico State University library joins libraries nationwide in a celebration of the 30th annual Banned Books Week.

Banned Books Week kicked off on Sept. 30 and will continue through Oct. 6. Since 1982, it has been a celebration of intellectual freedom and a campaign to raise awareness about censorship.

The national event, sponsored by the Office of Intellectual Freedom of the American Library Association, celebrates the freedom to read, the importance of the First Amendment and highlights the benefits of free and open access to information.

For a list and information on censored and banned books in New Mexico and around the nation visit the NMSU library guide at www.nmsu.libguides.com/censorship.
