KRWG-TV, a public television station based at New Mexico State University, is scheduled to broadcast a debate between candidates for the New Mexico 2nd Congressional District, among others, throughout October.

The 2nd Congressional debate will air at 9 p.m. Oct. 11 and will include U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce and his challenger Evelyn Madrid Erhard. The debate will air on all of New Mexico's public television stations.

"We provide a forum for candidates to state their positions on a wide range of issues," said Fred Martino, KRWG director of content. "It is critical for voters to make an informed choice."

Students from NMSU's government department will also participate by asking questions during the debate. Martino will severe as the moderator.

"I think it is critical for public media to provide a place for young people to be part of democratic process," Martino said.

KRWG has planned to broadcast seven other debates, including the presidential and vice presidential debate, on the following dates, each at 7 p.m..

• Oct. 8 Dona Ana County District Attorney Debate
• Oct. 11 Vice Presidential Debate
• Oct. 16 Presidential Debate
• Oct. 18 State House Debates
• Oct. 22 Presidential Debate
