The New Mexico General Obligation Bond C election contains proposed funding for improvements to all New Mexico State University campuses, along with several other schools throughout the state.

New Mexico voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on these General Obligation Bond items at the polls this November or in early or absentee voting. If the bonds are passed, there will be no increase in property taxes.

Absentee voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 9, and is open until Friday, Nov. 2. Early voting starts Saturday, Oct. 20, and is open through Saturday, Nov. 3.

"States are known for their educational institutions," said Associated Students of NMSU President Breeana Sylvas. "The fact that the citizens of New Mexico are considering GO Bond C is a reflection of their desire to invest in higher education."

NMSU GO Bond requests include $19 million for renovations at Hardman and Jacobs halls at NMSU in Las Cruces; $1 million for infrastructure renovations at the NMSU Grants campus; $2 million for Dona Ana Community College; $1 million for renovations at the NMSU Carlsbad campus; and $1 million for NMSU Alamogordo.

"These funds will help us modernize our teaching facilities for our students without increasing property taxes," said Lowell Catlett, dean of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.

The GO Bond requests cover higher education projects in the following counties: Bernalillo, Chaves, Cibola, Curry, Dona Ana, Eddy, Grant, Lea, Lincoln, Los Alamos, McKinley, Otero, Quay, Roosevelt, Rio Arriba, San Juan, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Socorro, Taos and Valencia.
