PORTALES – The first of a series of listening sessions with New Mexico State University’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences Dean Rolando Flores and New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte will be held in conjunction with the New Mexico Ag Expo March 24 in Portales. The session will be held at 3 p.m. in the Jake Lopez building on the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds. The session will allow agricultural producers, and those with an interest in agriculture, to talk to and ask questions of the dean and secretary. “This is probably the first time that the dean of the college and the director of the New Mexico Department of Agriculture have held a joint session to meet with our constituents across New Mexico,” Witte said. “There are many issues and opportunities to explore, and this will afford each of us with information directly from those we serve.” This event is one more opportunity for the College of ACES’ new dean to meet the agricultural community and learn about their concerns. “Agriculture plays a key role in New Mexico because it impacts the lives of everyone and it is at the center of our state’s community and economic development,” Flores said. “Listening to the people we serve will help us tune our academic, research and outreach efforts to better address the needs of our communities.” Future listening sessions will be held in other locations during the year. Everyone is encouraged to come visit the Ag Expo and talk to Dean Flores and Secretary Witte.
